Here's my thoughts on what Google is doing. Yes, they make their money via advertisements primarily, but that does not mean they are "primarily an ad company". Starting out as a search engine, making money via non-intrusive ads seems to have taught them something: They have databases filled with massive amounts of information. This information is expanding rapidly with user generated data.

Through their parsing of data for ads, caching of webpages, user inputed data into wealths of knowledge like google earth, book scanning, webpage caching, etc they now have data that goes beyond usefulness for ads.

They are turning this data into useable applications and handing them free to the public. With their data, user inputed from all over the world, Android phones closer to a HUD than I ever thought we'd be, and it's just the tip of the iceburg. It's exactly this database of data that people are so scared of that will make the future so amazing.

Yes, they make money via ads, but they are not an ad company. They are bringing the future to our doors, forcing companies to think beyond, innovate. Not just add a feature here or there, but really amaze us. We have ammassed too much knowledge to waste it with Telecom giants seeing who can offer the least product for the most price with the prettiest lies the slowest.

Google is breaking the barriers between humanity and innovation that were built by business and money.

Take your tin foil hats off and enjoy technology and creativity.
